Wickidz is over!
I'm just back from the performance... I'm actually still in my Nessarose costume, for what it's worth, because it's rather comfy.
So, tonight, I learned why the old adage is never work with children or animals. People kept forgetting their lines, sometimes in a quite major way, and the only thing that went off without a hitch was Popular... I think.
We ended up with just one song, after all that. Apparently, Defying Gravity is too hard... despite me offering the Broadway track, they refused it, and cut the song altogether.
Wicked Witch of the East didn't make it in due to a mess-up with certain people's lines - namely, Elphaba's. That girl couldn't remember her lines at all, even though she knew she was a main character, and... lots of interesting line flubs happened as a result.
"I can do whatever I want, I'm the Wizard of Oz! ...Or even the Wicked Witch of the West..."
And Fiyero repeatedly stating that Elphaba was a commotion, poor love. At least she tried, which is more than can be said for certain others...
The Dancing Through Life situation was never resolved, and so, I had to cover the unnatural gap with an improv line: "Oh, I'm sure he has a party to plan or something like that"... or something like that. XD I can't remember it at the moment.
The Grimmerie was consistently forgotten past the first scene it appeared in, and, when it finally reappeared, it was the wrong book. Whoopsie. That scene also appears to hold the record for line flubs.
I did love playing Nessarose, though. It's the little things that you do in the wheelchair that make it fun - I played with the things I had, like the copy of Pride and Prejudice - reading it in the classroom scene, hitting myself in the face in it when Elphaba made a whoopsie whilst talking to Fiyero. We also had the hand mirror, which... I used to check myself out (รก la the real show) and to hit myself in the head (on "there's no place like home"), amongst other things.
There were flub ups with stage directions, Josie and I got steadily more and more annoyed as people couldn't remember the lines they'd previously assured us they knew inside out... and yet, people seemed to like it. I got cheers, guys. =D
My dad recorded all of it, except for the final bows - the battery ran out, which he blames on our Elphaba's inability to remember her lines... and I agree... >.>
So, yeah. I might be posting up my bits on Youtube. Look out for that. =D
