Look, I'll show you.
(Before FIYERO can respond, GALINDA zooms on-stage, a vision in... well, Galinda-ness. She clings to his arm.)So, you see - removing the song means Fiyero's last line of dialogue makes no sense. I've suggested that a new line of dialogue be written to cover the sudden cut-off.
GALINDA
You must be Fiyero! You're that Arjiki prince that Madame Morrible was talking about!
FIYERO
...Well, I guess?
GALINDA
Something about going between schools?
FIYERO
Ah, well... you see...
[SONG - DANCING THROUGH LIFE] - Wickidz. Act I, Scene vi.
However, my suggestions are often ignored... that's what led to this whole mess-up with 'What Is This Feeling?' and 'Dancing Through Life' - I'd rather sacrifice some of the extraneous dialogue, like part of Elphaba and Galinda's bedroom talk prior to 'Popular', than songs... because the songs are awesome, and I want to sing my "We deserve each other" bit, so that 'Wicked Witch of the East' makes sense.
...You know what? This entire thing just seems like a plot against Nessarose and Boq. With 'Dancing Through Life' gone, Boq doesn't appear until Act II and nobody knows how much Nessa loves him... and how Boq was, essentially, roped into it against his will.
*curses the plotholes and the hack-job being made of her script*
